I’m certified!

Exciting News! ๐ŸŽฎ I’m thrilled and honored to announce that I’ve become an official certified Unreal Engine 5 instructor! From virtual production to real-time animation, my journey has been nothing short of unreal. And guess what? I’ll be joining the Animation Fellowship this October! ๐Ÿš€

I would like to thank my family and friends for their continuous support even doing a all-nighters when something did not work or when I really needed to dig into a problem. To all people I met with #UE5 in their living rooms, basements, dragging desktop PC’s to studios or online on fellowships: You have inspired me with your work showing me what can be done. Now its my turn to teach more and digest what I have learned on this road: to help others jump into #realtime3D on their terms.

The UAI program for me, personally was one of the toughest and most rewarding educational experience I had to date.. For me, It’s right up there with passing my driving license attempts when I was teenager or a hard core university curriculum. Being a film-maker and passionate gamer since I first booted up a Amiga 600 and today working in real time in 3D is something I’m proud of. Now to to be part of this as a educator is a huge deal for me. Let’s create something awesome together!

I was a TA at Epic World-building fellowship!

I document my journey as a Teaching Assistant (TA) at the Epic Worldbuilding event. The video is a vlog-style account of my daily experiences and learnings throughout the fellowship.

The video kicks off with me sharing my excitement and slight fatigue on the first day of the event. I talk about balancing my responsibilities as a TA with my personal life, including taking my dog, Alcantara, for a walk. I also give viewers a glimpse of my workspace, which I fondly refer to as my “Unreal Cave,” a nod to the use of Unreal Engine during the fellowship.

Throughout the video, I share snippets of my day, including attending presentations, learning about new features of Unreal Engine, and interacting with other participants. I express my amazement at the depth of knowledge being shared and the quality of the presentations. I also share some advice to my future self and other participants about picking battles when learning Unreal Engine due to its vastness and complexity.

The video also includes snippets of my daily life outside the fellowship, including walks with my dog and lunch breaks. As the video concludes, I express my anticipation for the remaining days of the fellowship and my eagerness to continue learning.

Overall, this video provides a personal and insightful look into my experiences as a TA at the Epic Worldbuilding fellowship, highlighting both the intensive learning process and the balance of personal life

Below you can watch the sizzle reel made by epic games showcasing students work in Unreal Engine 5:

Summer of Unreal: Best Storytelling award

During summer of 2021 Escape Studios together with Epic games organized a global cohort style learning experience. I was part of a team that worked on this small animation. What came out of is this short created in Unreal Engine 5:

Credits:

Horatiu Roman, Sam Shennan, Christoph Hars, Duncan Decottignies, Bartosz Barlowski, Cyril Chevtchouk, James Taylor, Aleksandar Bundalo, Alexander Trattler, Andrea Iliescu, Dawid Drabik

This short film was made during the Summer of Unreal course, where I, with ~800 others, spent four weeks learning from top pros from the animation and film industry about the latest and greatest in Unreal Engine cinematic production.

Together with the team we learned Unreal 5, how to make shaders, kitbash using photogrammetry assets from Quixel, how to rig characters using Control Rig and animate, all done in-engine with very little need for external tools.

Thanks to the awesome instructors and team for the Summer of Unreal!
